Today Armarium, the digital library of the Polish Dominicans, is pleased to announce full on-line access to all the eight volumes of Bullarium Ordinis FF. Praedicatorum, a monumental resource for research on the history of the Dominican Order prepared and published in the years 1729 to 1740.
The Bullarium contains the bulls and privileges concerning the Order of Preachers issued by popes Innocent III (beginning in 1215) through Clement XII (ending in 1739). The systematic compiling of the Bullarium was initiated by a Master of the Order, Antoninus Cloche (1686-1720), who commissioned Thomas Ripoll to do the work. When, in 1725, Ripoll himself was elected the Master of the Order, has commissioned Antoninus Bremond to continue the project. The first volume of the Bullarium was published in Rome in 1729 by Girolamo Mainardi, and the last (eighth) volume appeared eleven years later. The whole work comprises nearly six thousand printed pages.
Copies of the Bullarium stored in the Library of the Dominican House of Studies in Krakow are not well-preserved: they have been damaged by moisture and insects. Thus they have been digitized to make them available for scholars. The images have been subjected to OCR (optical character recognition). The resulting text is attached in a hidden layer and is searchable.
